Since its founding in 1992 Anna Myer and Dancers has performed Anna Myer’s innovative choreography to a steadily growing audience throughout the Northeast, most notably in Boston and New York City, and to the acclaim of some of the country’s most prominent dance critics. Myer’s unique language of movement is a fusion of her classical, modern, and postmodern background. Her dances are emotionally charged and infused with a keen formal intelligence. The Company has been presented by Dance Umbrella’s Boston Moves (1999), the Fleet Bank Celebrity Series (2003), Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival (2002 and 2003), Summer Stages Dance (2006), and Crash Arts at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston (2007). DeAnna was a soloist with Anna Myer and Dancers from 2009 - 2011.
Street Talk, Suite Talk
DeAnna was invited to join Anna Myer and Dancers (AM&D) in September of 2009 to work on the "Street Talk, Suite Talk" Project. Anna Myer's newest work fuses rap, contemporary dance, and music for violin. The evening-length piece is being developed through a collaborative process involving the choreographer, seven young poet-rappers, seven dancers, composer Jakov Jakoulov, and violinist Mark Berger. Advisors to the project include Anthony Toombs and Robert Macy from the On-Track Initiative, a music-based curriculum that helps youth to engage in healthy self-expression, the Initiative is part of the Center for Trauma Psychology.
Street Talk, Suite Talk is a unique and extraordinary combination of people with diverse approaches to art. The juxtaposition of artistic voices and backgrounds generate a dynamic vocabulary of dance, music and poetry. In a world that is often fragmented and distrustful, Street Talk, Suite Talk forges bonds between these worlds, working to create one vision.
"It’s chock full of powerful, memorable moments, and it beats with a strong, steady heart and a passionate commitment." -Karen Campbell, The Boston Globe
