As a principal dancer with Paula Josa-Jones / Performance Works, DeAnna has been dancing with horses for over ten years. What you may not know is that she has been riding horses for even longer.
On June 5th, 2011 DeAnna will trade dance sneakers for cowboy boots to ride alongside her mother Jody in "Ride for the Ribbon", a 4-hour, 10-mile trail-ride through Barre, Massachusetts, to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. One in 8 women in the U.S. will suffer from Breast Cancer in her lifetime. Susan G. Koman for the Cure® is committed to seeking a cure for breast cancer through heightened public awareness and support of foundations dedicated to the research, treatment and education necessary to confront this terrible disease of women. Up to 75% of the net income raised through "Ride for the Ribbon” stays in Massachusetts' communities to fund local breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects. The remaining net income supports the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Research Grant Programs, which fund groundbreaking breast cancer research around the world.
"My mom and I plan on making this an annual event. I will be riding in memory of my Nana, Doris Evelyn, who battled breast, ovarian, spinal and lung cancer for many years before her passing in 2000. This ride is for her, for every person who, like me, has lost his or her best friend to cancer, and in hope that someday, not too far from now, no one else will have to. Thank you for sponsoring my ride and the cause for the cure." -DeAnna
